What types of damage can be repaired?
Most windshield rock chips smaller than a quarter can be repaired. If a chip has a crack a few inches long extending from it, that may also be repairable depending on the length and position.
However, damage that can be felt from inside the vehicle indicates full penetration and cannot be safely repaired. Additionally, chips that sit directly over sensors or camera systems should not be repaired, as it may affect vehicle safety features.
Will the rock chip be visible after the repair?
Most rock chip repairs clear up 60% to 90% on average. You may still see a small imperfection, but the main goal of the repair is to restore the windshield’s structural integrity and stop the damage from spreading.
What factors affect the final results of a windshield repair?
Several things can impact how clean or invisible a repair looks, including:
Size and severity of the original damage
Age of the chip or crack
Dirt, dust, moisture, or cleaners that may have entered over time
The sooner you get it repaired, the better the result — and the better your chances of avoiding a costly full replacement.
Do I need to do anything before my appointment?
Just keep the windshield dry. Please don’t wash it before the repair. If it’s a hot day, parking in the shade or garage helps, but not required. Since I’ll need to access the inside of the vehicle during the repair, just have the keys ready when I arrive. I’ll take care of the rest!
